Welcome and Opening Remarks:
The Chairman, Jill Milton, welcomed all present to the meeting. She also welcomed Mike Read, our Speaker, who would follow the formalities with a talk on ‘Wildlife of the New Forest’.
Minutes of last Annual General Meeting (Wednesday 30th January 2013:
Copies were available to members attending and there were no matters arising.
Chairman’s Report:
A copy of the report is on file. Jill spoke of a successful year for the Society with an average attendance at our monthly meetings of about 50 persons. The year included an interesting and varied monthly programme, the Plant Sale in May - the revenue of which increased by a record amount - excellent day and evening outings, and a successful Cheese and Wine evening. The year culminated in our very popular and enjoyable dinner at the Silver Fern. She thanked the committee for all their considerable support over the last year.
Joan Clarke has decided to retire from her position on the committee. Jill asked everyone to join her in thanking Joan for all her hard work and commitment over the years.
Treasurer’s Report:
This was prepared and presented to members by Pam Whitfield and a copy of the report is on file. Audited accounts for 2013 were available to those attending.
Membership stands at 95 paid members, a decrease of 8 on the previous year, plus 2 honorary members. We had 35 visitors and Pam hopes they will become members this year.
In her report Pam thanked Graham Peckham for the large seed orders. She also thanked all those involved in the Plant Sale which raised our funds by £671.06 after expenses. Both of these provide extra needed income.
She spoke of our Cheese and Wine evening which was a great success as were our two Outings.
In her report Pam said that although we appear to have an excess of income over expenditure of £1,135.93 there is money still to be paid out for the January dinner and seed orders.
This year she can recommend our subscription stay at £10.
Election of Officers for 2014:
Re-appointment of President. Trevor Clarke is willing to continue in post and his re-election was proposed by the Chairman. All
present were in agreement.
Appointment of Vice President. Although the committee decided last year that this post was no longer required, this year it was proposed that Dorothy Turner be our Vice President and all present were in agreement.
Trevor Clarke then proposed that Jill Milton, who has chaired the society very successfully, be re-elected as Chairman and this was enthusiastically carried.
Jill Milton then proposed the re-election of Rona Neilson as Vice Chairman, Pam Whitfield as Treasurer, and Suzanne Holleyoak as Secretary. As there were no other nominations, all were carried.
Election of Committee:
Jill Cuff, Glenda Edmondson, Roz Garrett and Ingrid Stillman were willing to continue as committee members and were duly elected, together with new committee member, Moira Lloyd.
